$50,000 available for Indi to mark Armistice centenary

Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan has called for local communities to recommend projects to their RSL for a share of $50,000 from the Commonwealth’s Armistice Centenary Grants Program.

Expressions of interest close on 8 December 2017 and will be considered directly after by a committee made up of representatives from RSL clubs across Indi and other community members.

“This is an opportunity for ex-service organisations, schools and local groups to put forward projects to commemorate Armistice in their communities,” Ms McGowan.

Communities in Indi have already accessed ANZAC Centenary Grants for 22 projects ranging from the refurbishment of memorials to funding for a play. The Armistice Grants are additional funding from the Federal Government which will be made available from March 2018.

“The work local people have done to honour the sacrifice of service men and women has been inspiring,” Ms McGowan said.

“I am looking forward to seeing what creative projects will be put forward for this funding opportunity.”

Ms McGowan thanked the members of the Indi Centenary Grants Program Committee, who will reconvene to assess the Expressions of Interest. The committee will meet on 11 December to consider submissions, and will invite a selection of project organisers to apply for funding.

Expressions of interest outlining project ideas should be sent to the Office of Cathy McGowan, 115 Murphy Street Wangaratta, VIC, 3677 or emailed to cathy.mcgowan.mp@aph.gov.au by 5pm Friday 8 December.
