Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan AO, is urging residents in Indi with an interest in getting improved telecommunications for their area to attend community forums.
The Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN) is holding three community sessions in Indi this week.
Ms McGowan met with ACCAN CEO Teresa Corbin and director of policy Una Lawrence in Canberra recently, and invited them to Indi.
These community sessions will focus on consumer rights, and how communities can effectively lobby telco providers and governments for improved services.
Ms McGowan said these meetings are a ‘must attend’ for those who want to take action to improve mobile phone coverage, internet and also connect with other community members with the same interest.
“These forums are part of the ongoing work to bring telecommunications into the 21st century in Indi, as per my election commitment,” Ms McGowan said.
Ms Corbin and Ms Lawrence will also meet with Indi Telecommunications Action Group (ITAG) members during the visit. ITAG played a prominent role in Round One of the Mobile Black Spot Programme which delivered 30 mobile base stations to Indi to help improve mobile phone coverage for 199 locations.
