Assistance available for flood and storm damage
Independent Federal Member for Indi is encouraging councils and households affected by storms and flooding on 13 December to apply for relief funding.
Joint funding from the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements Disaster assistance is now available to households and councils in the Alpine, Indigo, Wangaratta and Wodonga local government areas.
Households can access Emergency Relief Assistance Payments - up to $540 per adult and $270 per child, to a maximum of $1890 per eligible household - to help with emergency food, shelter, clothing, and personal items.
State government agencies and councils in affected areas can apply for funding to cover costs associated with sandbagging, construction of temporary levees and the restoration of essential public assets such as roads and stormwater infrastructure.
“Areas such as Eldorado, Everton and Tarrawingee were hit with almost half a year’s worth of rain. The local SES volunteers, firefighters, police and members of the community are to be commended for their tireless efforts during the storms and in the aftermath,” Ms McGowan said.
“All those who need additional help to restore and clean up their homes should apply for assistance. I encourage councils to get in touch with the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance to make a claim for funding.”
Councils and community members can visit the Australian Government’s Disaster Assist website, disasterassist.gov.au, for more details.
