Benalla’s young leaders praised in Parliament
“Don't ever doubt how passionate, engaged and hardworking our young people are.”
This was the message from Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan who welcomed young leaders from Benalla’s P-12 College to Parliament House on 24 May.
Benalla P-12 College’s school captains Freyr Hubbard, Emily Neilson, Maisy Lister and Zach Cook were present in the House of Representatives to hear Ms McGowan acknowledge their leadership.
“Young people are often described as leaders of tomorrow, but I say that the young people of my community are not waiting for tomorrow - they are leading their community today,” Ms McGowan said.
Ms McGowan told the Parliament how the young leaders had impressed her during a meeting last week in Benalla to discuss the Federal Budget.
“As students, as employees, as carers, as community leaders, as volunteers and advocates for better services for their community, young people in rural communities have an enormous weight on their shoulders,” Ms McGowan said.
“They also have enormous compassion and understanding for others.”
Ms McGowan acknowledged the recent projects of the video made by FCJ College with Cooinda Benalla Aged Care Celebrating in a cover of the Queen classic Don’t Stop Me Now as part of ‘Let’s Find Our Voice' choir initiative; and the production of the song The Song Inside by young people from Benalla, Mansfield and Strathbogie in a Muso Magic workshop.
