Commitment to infrastructure to benefit Indi’s local councils
Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan has welcomed the government’s response to calls to increase investment in regional Australia through funding for roads and infrastructure programs.
Ms McGowan welcomed the increase in Roads to Recovery Funding by $50 million per annum, the continuation of the Stronger Communities Program, the announcement of Round 2 of the Building Better Regions fund, and the lifting of the Financial Assistance Grants indexation freeze.
“The councils I have met with recently, including Wangaratta Rural City, Benalla Rural City, Mansfield and Murrindindi Shires, and Alpine Shire, have all told me how important infrastructure investment from the government is,” Ms McGowan said.
Ms McGowan said the Stronger Communities Program was a wonderful example of local councils working with their local representative to benefit the whole region.
“Eight LGAs collaborated to apportion the funding equally, resulting in innovating local projects such as the community pizza oven in Wodonga, the ToilART project in Yea, and the refurbishment of Benalla’s Senior Citizens’ Centre.”
Ms McGowan is inviting people to have a say on the budget at www.cathymcgowan.com.au until 25 May.
