A Federal funding initiative aimed at building community infrastructure is delivering for Corryong. Cathy McGowan AO, congratulated the Towong Shire Council on receiving $18,125 under Round One of the Federal Government Stronger Communities Programme (SCP) for the Corryong Swimming Pool social infrastructure project.
Ms McGowan established the Indi Stronger Communities Programme Advisory Committee (ISCPAC) to deliver Round One of the SCP. Community priorities guided the application process. Representatives from ICSPAC engaged with community groups to determine eligibility. Indi was allocated $150,000 in the Federal Budget for the SCP in 2015-16.
The Corryong Swimming Pool upgrade project includes:
- picnic tables, chairs
- bench seats
- shade structure
Ms McGowan said the project would enhance the Corryong Swimming Pool facility and encourage greater use of the pool.
“The upgrade will make a visit to the swimming pool a more pleasant experience, with the shade giving protection from the sun,” Ms McGowan said. “Families in Corryong will welcome these improvements. I know there will be an even greater sense of community ownership of the pool when the project is completed.”
Ms McGowan thanked the Towong Shire Council for its $20,475 of contribution towards the project, which has a total cost of $38,600.
“I look forward to visiting Corryong for the opening of the upgrade, and seeing how the community benefits from this successful project,” Ms McGowan said.
Ms McGowan thanked Towong Shire Council CEO Juliana Phelps and ICSPAC representative Director Community and Corporate Services Jo Shannon, for their efforts in the process.
