Decentralisation will benefit regions when done properly
Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan stressed her support for decentralisation today and the need for consultation and a plan to ensure it is done effectively.
“I welcome the visit from Minister Nash to the border today and the government’s interest and commitment to the regions,” Ms McGowan said, following a visit from the Federal Minister for Regional Development the Hon Fiona Nash to Albury today.
“I’m all for decentralisation when it is done properly and with a plan,” Ms McGowan said.
“There is immense potential and skill in the regions that would benefit all of Australia. People want to be reassured there will be adequate planning for growth, in infrastructure, transport, mobile phones and NBN.”
Ms McGowan noted that the recent APVMA Senate inquiry was not a substitute for a comprehensive plan for decentralisation
“I’m looking forward to working with the government on a national policy approach to regional Australia and hope to see infrastructure investment to support it in next week’s budget,” Ms McGowan said.
