Edi Upper mobile phone tower celebration
Federal Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan has praised the community of Edi Upper and surrounds on their advocacy work that resulted in a new mobile phone tower in their area.
Ms McGowan will celebrate the new tower with the community next Tuesday 19 March at the Edi Upper Hall at 4.30pm.
“Everyone is welcome to attend. It’s just before the monthly Wangaratta council meeting, so feel free to come along for the celebration before attending the Council meeting,” Ms McGowan said.
“This is the 27th tower of 38 delivered for Indi under the Commonwealth Government’s Mobile Black Spot Programme.
“Reliable telecommunications are crucial for people in rural areas, especially in emergency situations. Everyone should be able to make a triple zero when needed.”
Ms McGowan said communities across Indi had worked together to identify black spots in Indi’s nine local government areas through solid partnerships at all levels of government.
“There’s nothing ‘lukewarm’ about this work which has halved the number of black spots in Indi since 2014.
“As well as the 38 phone towers under the Commonwealth Government’s program, there have also been a further 10 under the Victorian Government program. This is a testament to the drive and tenacity of Indi communities working from the grassroots level to achieve what they need.”
