Flowerdale celebrates improved mobile phone coverage
Members of the Flowerdale community celebrated improved reception when the new mobile phone tower was officially launched on Tuesday 19 December 2017.
The community was joined by Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan and Telstra Telstra’s Area General Manager East & South West Victoria Region Loretta Willaton.
Ms McGowan congratulated community and the Murrindindi Shire Council for their work in identifying the black spot as a priority. Murrindindi Shire has three spots funded – Flowerdale, Kinglake West and Yea.
“This is an achievement by the community in partnership with the council. It’s a testament to how effective it is when communities and all levels of government work together,” Ms McGowan said.
“Indi has been successful in securing funding for 38 new mobile phone towers under the Mobile Black Spot Programme. I will continue to work on a sustainable solution to addressing all remaining blackspots across Murrindindi Shire and the rest of the electorate.
“Thanks Telstra and the State and Federal Governments on delivering a really important boost to local telecommunications.”
Ms McGowan said she would continue to work closely with Telstra and Optus for NBN colocation on as many towers as possible.
“People expect and deserve mobile phone coverage and internet wherever they are in Australia,” she said.
