The Minister for Agriculture Barnaby Joyce has agreed to a round-table meeting in Indi to address the delays dairy farmers are currently facing to get applications processed for Farm Household Assistance. It can take up to twenty weeks for farmers to receive assistance. Cathy McGowan asked in parliament for the round-table and additional resources to clear the backlog. It’s a good example both of the role of an Independent in holding Government to account, but also of the Government’s use of Parliament for grandstanding and political point scoring. We can only hope that the Roundtable tackles the difficulties for farmers in accessing the Farm Household Assistance program, and gives outcomes for farmers not only in Cathy’s electorate of Indi, but around Australia.

No I do not like this post. More talk from the deputy Prime Minister with no actions behind them. Figures that still don’t add up and funding going to areas without consultation with the farmers themselves as to where the need is.
