Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan, is urging residents and businesses to make their views known by making submissions to the Working Holiday Maker Visa Review.
The review was announced on Monday and submissions are due by Friday, September 2.
“There isn’t much time, so start your submission today,” Ms McGowan said.
“It is important that the voices of business that rely on backpacker labour and the wider communities which will be impacted if the tax is introduced are heard.”
Ms McGowan welcomes the review. She supports the current 19.5 per cent tax arrangements and shares industry concern a rise to 32.5 per cent as proposed would harm local economies.
Assistant Agriculture Minister Luke Hartsuyker will lead the review, which will be conducted by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.
The review’s outcomes will be announced before any changes come into effect on January 1, 2017.
