Indi looks to Commonwealth after disappointing rail announcement
Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan says she is disappointed that funding for new rolling stock for the troubled Wodonga-Melbourne line was omitted from the State Government’s regional rail package.
“Once again people in North East Victoria are left waiting for trains,” Ms McGowan said.
Ms McGowan will hold the Victorian Premier the Hon Daniel Andrews to his commitment to allocate funding to new rolling stock once the Federal Government commits funding to upgrade the rail line.
“$20 million is better than nothing, and the signals do need upgrading, but ultimately we need more trains, more often,” Ms McGowan.
“Now all eyes will be on the Federal Budget next week for a significant allocation of funding for the inland rail. I call on both the State and Federal governments to work together to ensure that the North East line gets an adequate share of that funding.”
