Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan has thanked businesses, councils and individuals for their enormous contribution to the inquiry of the Joint Standing Committee for the National Broadband Network.
Ms McGowan, a member of the Committee, said the public hearing in Wodonga on Thursday 20 April had been a great success, canvassing significant issues experienced with the NBN rollout in rural and regional areas.
“People made it quite clear they need and expect the same standard of broadband internet in the country as in metropolitan areas,” Ms McGowan said.
“As a result of the compelling evidence given to the Committee, the government has indicated it will in the short term work with NBN on pricing, speed and satellite performance.”
The Committee will at the conclusion of the inquiry prepare a report with recommendations on further action for the government.
While submissions to the inquiry have closed, Ms McGowan is encouraging people to continue to write to her with their personal stories, to help inform future action on NBN.
