The Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Her Excellency Lady Cosgrove will visit Indi from February 16-17, 2015.
Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan AO, says she is delighted the Governor-General accepted her invitation to come to the electorate for a visit that will showcase the very best of communities in Indi.
“A packed itinerary will see the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove tour six local government areas—Wodonga, Indigo, Wangaratta, Benalla, Mansfield, and Murrindindi—during a visit that focuses on highlighting the region’s achievements, rural resilience, youth inclusion and community engagement,” Ms McGowan said.
“Thanks to the partnerships of councils in Indi, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove will be treated to a memorable visit and councils are already well into planning community receptions to welcome them.”
The visit will follow the six-year anniversary of the February 2009 bushfires and the theme of recovery and resilience will be an important feature of the itinerary, which takes in Beechworth, Yea and Kinglake.
“Community groups and organisations have done important work post-bushfires to make our affected communities more resilient and better prepared for when fires hit the area and we are looking forward to showing this work to the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove,” Ms McGowan said.
