The Women in Policing Local Committee – encompassing the Wodonga and Wangaratta Service Area— hosted an event to celebrate International Women's Day. Cathy was a guest speaker.


Rail track upgrades next weekend

Upgrades on the North East track mean no trains will be running the weekend of the 17-19th March. The Australian Rail Track Corporation will be undertaking $4m worth of infrastructure and maintenance works. This week, the Victorian Transport Minister Jacinta Allan caught the train to Benalla for a briefing on the North East track. Cathy called on the Federal Government to immediately release the scope of works for the $100m upgrades. Read Minister Allan’s release.

Grant to strengthen North East families

A Federal grant will allow the Centre in Wangaratta to deliver its Strengthening Family Connections Program. It received a $234,000 to run the program across Wodonga, Wangaratta, Myrtleford and Benalla. It will partner with Gateway Health and Barwon Child Youth and Family to deliver group sessions. New Manufacturing Jobs at Thales

A new manufacturing line at Thales’ Benalla plant will create new opportunities and jobs. The pistol ammunition upgrade will produce around 10 million cartridges annually per shift. It will enable Thales to bid for business beyond traditional Defence customers, in particular law enforcement agencies in Australia and New Zealand.


Community Heritage Grants now open

Community Heritage Grants offers up to $15,000 to assist in preserving cultural heritage collections of national significance. Not-for-profit organisations, such as historical societies, regional museums, public libraries and Indigenous and migrant community groups are encouraged to apply.

Nominations for the Aboriginal Honour Roll

Nominations for the Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll are open until 27 May 2018. The Honour Roll recognises the contributions of Aboriginal people to our communities and our state. Find out more and make a nomination today.

Mobile tower celebrations

Tangam and Bethanga: it’s time to celebrate your new mobile phone towers! Cathy and Telstra representative, Loretta Willaton will visit next Friday for celebrations. The Tangambalanga gathering will be at the Tangam Hotel at 10:15am. Looking for Artists!

Towong Shire and Murray Arts are looking for artists interested in making large-scale public art. The artwork will be placed along the Great River Road – along the Upper Murray. Expressions close 16 April. Find out more here.

Do politicians know what it's like to do your job?

This great piece by the ABC looks at the jobs our politicians had before politics. Not only are there some great black and white photos of our pollies in their youth (check out the one of Cathy), but it raises some important questions. Is it important that our Parliament reflect the community? Have a read and let us know your thoughts.

Submissions called for data sharing bill

Submissions are being called for a Bill that will facilitate the sharing of identity-information between the Commonwealth and State and Territory Governments. The Bill will allow the Department of Home Affairs to collect and use identification information to operate biometric face-matching services. Written submissions are due by March 21. Geological survey underway

A geological survey is currently underway in parts of Indi. They survey is part of a program to build knowledge of Victoria’s underlying geological ‘architecture’. The focus of the survey is the rock types in this part of the state. The area is not being surveyed for gas or petroleum. Find out more.

International Women’s Day morning tea

Borinya in Wangaratta hosted a morning tea for International Women’s Day. Cathy enjoyed meeting and listening to these amazing women.
