Leneva celebrates improved mobile coverage
Members of the Leneva community will celebrate improved reception when the Beechworth-Wodonga Rd mobile phone tower is officially launched on Friday, 19 January 2018.
The community will be joined by Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan and Telstra’s Garry Austin.
Ms McGowan congratulated the community and Indigo Council for their work in identifying the black spot as a priority. Indigo has two spots funded – Beechworth-Wodonga Rd and Tangambalanga.
“This is an achievement by the community in partnership with the council. It’s a testament to how effective it is when communities and all levels of government work together,” Ms McGowan said.
“Indi has been successful in securing funding for 38 new mobile phone towers under the Mobile Black Spot Programme. This will be the eighth community event held to celebrate the new towers. I will continue to work on a sustainable solution to addressing all remaining blackspots across Indigo Shire and the rest of the electorate.
“Thank you to Telstra and the State and Federal Governments on delivering a really important boost to local telecommunications.”
Ms McGowan said she would continue to work closely with Telstra and Optus for NBN colocation on as many towers as possible.
“People expect and deserve mobile phone coverage and internet wherever they are in Australia,” she said.
