Local, Independant and Effective

Liam Shay from Wodonga was invited to join Cathy's volunteer program after he invited her to speak at Wodonga TAFE to community services diploma students in 2014. He was able to find time in his busy work and study schedule in September 2017.

Liam came with a particular interest in equity and access for people with a disability. He particularly enjoyed the diversity of people he met through various events. After meeting with the Wodonga Venturers in Parliament House, he will now return home and assist them in with a grant application for funding for their hall.

"The experience of speaking to so many different people has highlighted how different we are but in many ways the same. People are so passionate," Liam said.

"The amount of work Cathy's office does is huge, much more substantial than people might believe.

"What I have learned is that you have to use critical thinking when it comes to politics. I encourage everyone to come and visit Canberra, and to engage with your local member."
