Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan AO, has welcomed the National Broadband Network three-year construction plan announced today. The plan details schedules for the fixed line and fixed wireless rollout across much of Indi. According to the NBN estimates, up to 25,000 new premises have been added to the existing construction plan. This takes the estimated premises to about 55,000 premises in Indi.

“This is a significant win for residents in more than 35 towns across Indi,” Ms McGowan said.

“Rural and regional householders and business owners are desperate for better internet. This issue has been a major one and residents continually ask when the NBN is coming to their town.

“I will continue to deliver on my election commitment to work with the Government to solve the telecommunications problems in Indi. I will keep representing the people of Indi’s needs to Government as this infrastructure program rolls out.”

According to the three-year plan, residents in Alexandra, Rutherglen, Wahgunyah, Bright and Porepunkah, Benalla, Beechworth, Chiltern, Myrtleford, Corryong, Yea, Eildon, Kinglake, Mount Beauty, Tawonga South, Mansfield, Tallangatta will be able to access fixed line. Construction is scheduled to start in 2017. Fixed wireless will deliver internet to Flowerdale and surrounds, Kinglake, Goughs Bay, Bethanga and Stanley

Residents in the Allans Flat and surrounds will also welcome news they have been allocated fixed wireless coverage in the plan. This result is in direct response to Ms McGowan working with the local community and NBN to get the best possible outcome for those wanting better internet.

Ms McGowan praised the community for taking action, including organising a petition, to improve their internet services.

“It is pleasing NBN has listened to the local community calling for fixed wireless rollout. I am always happy to help communities get their voice heard by Government on important issues, and in this case I encouraged them to campaign for better internet,” Ms McGowan said.
