Mansfield Primary School students praised in Parliament
Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan has praised Grade Six students from Mansfield Primary School for their leadership.
In a speech to Parliament on Wednesday 6 December, Ms McGowan said the students “are not waiting for tomorrow. They are leading their community today and we are in good hands.
Ms McGowan met the students during the annual School to Summit Bike and Hike to Mt Buller, where they canvassed their issues.
“When I asked them what message I should bring back to Parliament, the range of issues demonstrated very clearly that there is no single young people’s issue,” Ms McGowan said.
“Their interests are broad but their messages are clear: they want better NBN, better public transport, driving age to be consistent between Victoria and New South Wales, and good planning around residential growth.”
Ms McGowan thanked students Jed, Jay, Tara, Ruby, Madi and Ben and the other students who shared their views, and teacher Ms Billy Leatham.
“I invite all young people to write to me with their issues and ideas, so we can work together on a solution,” Ms McGowan said.
