Mark volunteered in Cathy's office in Canberra for the October 19-22 sitting. Here's his thoughts on the exciting experience.

1. Tell us about yourself. What’s your background?

"I live in Bright, North East Victoria and of course in the electorate of INDI. I have 3 daughters, ages 11, 9 and 7 who all attend Bright P-12 School. I am the Branch Manager of the Bright Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank. I am a member of local clubs and on the Bright P-12 School Council."

2. Why did you volunteer?

"I have been interested in the whole Voices for Indi story and learnt more about it through the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program which I completed this year. I heard about the volunteer program Cathy runs and it was just too good an opportunity not to be part of."

3. What surprised you during your time in Parliament House?

"I knew it was a big place and busy but I was surprised at just how big and busy it actually is! Cathy’s time is precious as the days are booked up and any available time, if there is any, is taken up quickly. There is always so much going on with groups having presentations, hosting breakfasts, lunches and meetings. It is also a friendly place – most people are happy to say g’day, especially if you engage them first."

4. What would you say about the Indi Way?

"To me the INDI way is about being inclusive, listening to opinions and ideas of those directly involved and effected and acting on their behalf. It’s about looking after our own in INDI but also being aware of what can be done at a State and National level. Thank you Cathy and your team, Karen, Kerryn and Simon, for this opportunity."
