McKoy Street Statement
Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan says the McKoy Street intersection with the Hume Freeway at Wodonga is an entirely Victorian Government planned and funded upgrade.
The Commonwealth has not provided any funding for the project and has not been consulted on the upgrade. The Commonwealth has no jurisdiction to intervene. McKoy Street is a State road.
“I am aware of community concern about the construction project at this intersection,” Ms McGowan said.
“The Deputy Prime Minister, Michael McCormack was in Albury today and told media that McKoy Street intersects with a national highway but remains a state government-managed road.
“I confirm the advice received today from the Deputy Prime Minister and his office. In reviewing and approving the new intersection, VicRoads undertook a safety audit and is monitoring the construction of the intersection.
“VicRoads is conducting a planning study to consider a number of improvement opportunities for the Hume Freeway at Wodonga, including identifying an ultimate solution for the intersection in the longer term.
“I understand community consultation will occur as part of the planning study, and will include concept designs for the longer term solution for the intersection. I would encourage all members of the community to participate and contribute to this consultation process.
“I welcome at any time discussions with the Border Mail and constituents. I encourage constituents with concerns to get in touch with my office. Where appropriate, I will make representations to the Victorian Government.”
