Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan AO, has welcomed significant long-term Federal Government investment to boost defence force infrastructure in Indi. A number of projects have been included in the 2016 Defence White Paper announced today.
A major redevelopment to key military infrastructure will take place in Albury-Wodonga in the next 10 years. The estimated cost of the upgrade is $350 million over that period, with another $50 million earmarked for the following decade.
“This announcement brings confidence to the defence force community in the North East,” Ms McGowan said. “This is good for uniformed and civilian workers, and the local economy will benefit. There will be jobs in construction, transport, logistics and this will have a huge flow-on effect throughout many sectors.”
Ms McGowan said Bandiana was a significant logistics and training hub for defence and would also be renovated.
“The storage and distribution facilities will be upgraded in the next 10 years,” Ms McGowan said.
Another project is the construction of a small arms ammunition test facility in Benalla.
“This will add to the defence presence in Benalla,” Ms McGowan said.
Ms McGowan said this was another example of significant Government investment in an independent seat.
“Indi matters and funding continues to flow, this time the benefits are coming to the defence sector in the area,” she said.
