Minister commits to honouring Indi roads funding promises
Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan today secured a commitment from Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester to honour all roads funding announced for the electorate during the election.
The people of Indi were made a series of funding commitments by the Government during the Federal Election campaign.
June 23: $10 million was announced for the Kiewa Highway; the Great Alpine Road and the Rutherglen Bypass.
June 3: $7.1 million was announced for roads in Shelly/Walwa; Hume Highway; Mansfield, Eildon and Jamison.
During Question Time, Ms McGowan asked Mr Chester to outline the timeline for the implementation of the roads funding.
Although he did not provide a specific timeline, Mr Chester said “All election commitments will be honoured.”
Ms McGowan welcomed the commitment to follow through with election promises, but is still calling for Mr Chester to outline when the funding will be forthcoming.
“These roads projects are important to the productivity and safety of Indi residents and must be fulfilled as a matter of urgency,” she said.
