Eddie Voogt from Wodonga led a group that met with Cathy to present a petition calling on the House to “prohibit the Northern Australia Infrastructure facility from loaning money to Adani or any other fossil fuel projects and encourage new renewable energy projects such as concentrated solar thermal power, wind and solar”. More than 700 signatures have been collected from across Indi.

Yackandandah was the site of much pride and community engagement at the opening of Australia's first commercial mini grid on Friday 1 December. Read more about the project here. The launch was part of Yackandandah's Festival of Dangerous Ideas, a day of events with more than 130 participants and guest speakers Dr John Hewson (past Leader of the Federal Liberal Party), Dr Kate Auty (past Victorian Government Environment Commissioner, and current Commissioner in the ACT, Dan Cass (The Australia Institute Energy Expert) and CathyTruly an 'empowered' community - well done Yack!

Inquiry a chance to have a say on handling of parliamentarians’ dual citizenship

Make a submission to the inquiry examining how to ensure elected representatives are eligible to serve. The Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters inquiry will examine how laws could be improved to minimise the risk of candidates being found ineligible under Section 44 of the Australian Constitution. Another mobile tower opened – Rosewhite’s turn to celebrate

Members of the Rosewhite community joined Cathy, the Mayor and CEO of Alpine Shire, and Telstra’s Loretta Willaton to celebrate the new mobile phone tower on Wednesday 22 November. Congratulations to the council and residents. Alpine Shire has three spots funded – Rosewhite, Wandiligong and Buffalo River.

Don’t miss these important grants opportunities to benefit communities!

  • Community grants under Building Better Regions Fund 
    Community groups and local councils can apply for grants starting at $5000 under the community stream of the Building Better Regions Fund. Projects under $20,000 don’t require matching funding. More info on the BBRF and how to apply here 

  • Armistice Centenary Grants
    Local communities can recommend projects to their RSL for a share of $50,000 from the Commonwealth’s Armistice Centenary Grants Program. More details here
