Action on community energy as a vital piece of national power jigsaw

As the government releases detail of its power policy, Cathy has called for recognition of the potential of community energy projects. She will meet with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) next week to discuss how ARENA can better encourage community energy projects.

Manus motion to be debated

Cathy’s motion calling for a humane resolution to the fate of asylum seekers on Manus Island will be debated in Parliament on Monday 23 October.

Marriage equality – replacement form deadline today

People presenting at Thursday’s hearing in Wodonga for regional development covered the spectrum - from grass roots democracy, local leadership, all tiers of government, health-care and business. They all have a role to play in developing thriving regions.

Gabriella Toal, 15, from Allan's Flat, has been named an Australian Youth Ambassador for Rotary and accepted for the Rotary Youth Exchange. Gabby, in year 9 at Trinity Anglican College Albury-Wodonga, will spend the 2018 school year in Denmark. Thanks to Rotary District 9790, Rotary Club of Albury West for their support and sponsorship.


Local councils to meet with NBN for local roll-out solutions

Cathy has arranged a meeting with NBN and the Indi Telecommunications Action Group, which includes representatives from local councils, in November. Participants will discuss local challenges and solutions to the NBN rollout in Indi. The announcement follows the release of the first report from the inquiry into the roll-out

Regional development inquiry – join the conversation.

Cathy’s question after the first public hearing of the inquiry into regional development and decentralisation on Monday 18 September: what has government done well to develop a regional workforce? What can it do better? A public hearing will be held in Wodonga on 12 October. More here

Minister for Aged Care and Indigenous health in Indi 25-26 September

The Hon Minister Ken Wyatt will hear about some of the exciting projects around indigenous health and place-based aged care during a visit to Indi next week. On show will be the Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service, the Dirrawarra Indigenous Network; St Catherine’s Hostel Wangaratta for a discussion on Nurse Practitioners and decision-making in Dementia; and La Trobe University for workforce development for aged care. Aboriginal Community Support Worker Chris Thorne (centre), and acting Executive Officer with Central Hume PCP, Jenny Ashby (right), met with the Minister for Aboriginal Health the Hon Ken Wyatt at Parliament House. Mr Thorne and Ms Ashby briefed the Minister on practical local solutions which benefit the community. The Minister will visit Indi on 25 and 26 September.


Applications open for $20 million for jobs and infrastructure fund

It’s a $20 million opportunity to deliver for Indi. Applications are open for the region’s $20 million share of the Commonwealth’s Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Package. Investment will be guided by the local investment plan developed by the local committee, to which Cathy nominated four Indi representatives. An information session will be held at Mansfield MACE on 31 August at 2.30 pm.
