NBN rollout continues across Indi - another 1500 homes to be serviced

Another 1500 premises in Indi will soon have connection to the Federal Government’s NBN, with new construction underway across the North East.

Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan AO, welcomed news today that progress was being made with another six fixed wireless NBN towers (see list below) under construction. This follows the announcement of December 1 about the NBN rollout plan for the next 18 months.

“This is great news for householders who want better internet speeds, and small business owners needing improved capability to be able to promote and grow their enterprises,” Ms McGowan said.

Ms McGowan said this was part of delivering on her election commitment to work with the Government to fix the telecommunications problems in Indi. In regular meetings with NBN Co. representatives this year, Ms McGowan has asked for NBN rollout plans information to be made available to the public, including the type of NBN service and construction timeline.

“My office is constantly receiving calls from the public wanting to know when they will be getting NBN in their community,” Ms McGowan said. “The NBN rollout is continuing and I expect further announcements about NBN tower construction next year. I welcome NBN Co. releasing quarterly rollout updates. I will continue to represent the people’s needs to Government as this infrastructure program continues.”

Ms McGowan also believes the NBN wireless tower installations across rural and regional Australia can help solve the mobile phone black spot problems. Not only can mobile phone transmitters can be placed on NBN wireless towers but also the fixed wire network that links them can be used to connect mobile phone towers outside the NBN network.

“Now the NBN rollout is underway, I’m working closely with Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, councils and the Government on sharing facilities,” Ms McGowan said.
