New Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport
Federal Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan has welcomed the appointment of the new Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack as the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport. Mr McCormack’s appointment follows his election as the leader of the National Party in the Federal Parliament.
“I appreciate the prompt timing of this appointment which enables me to make immediate contact with the new Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport,” Ms McGowan said.
“I have written to Minister McCormack to invite him to visit Indi at his earliest convenience to receive a briefing on the status of the North East rail track upgrade. I will meet with his staff this week to discuss the project.
“There can be no delay from the Federal and Victorian Governments as they determine how to meet all funding requirements for this vital project.
“I reiterate last week’s call for the scoping study to be released immediately with community consultation to follow. Communities in North East Victoria expect action to be taken quickly to address problems that have caused ongoing stress.
“I look forward to sharing the valuable knowledge and feedback from my electorate with the new Minister in the near future.”
