New multipurpose hall a boon for Beechworth students
Federal Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan has congratulated all those involved with the Beechworth Montessori School on the opening of the school’s new multipurpose hall on Thursday, 15 March 2018.
The school received an Australian Government grant of $650,000 to redevelop the multipurpose hall. The project included construction of an extension and refurbishment of an existing building to provide a kitchenette and other amenities.
The hall will be opened by Victorian Senator Jane Hume on behalf of the Federal Government. Funding was provided under a program to support non-government primary and secondary school communities to improve their infrastructure.
“I want to congratulate the staff of Beechworth Montessori School, the Committee of Management, students and parents on a whole-of-school effort to recognise completion of this project,” Ms McGowan said.
“Beechworth Montessori School is the only Montessori primary school in North East Victoria and operates as an independent, not-for-profit incorporated body with a voluntary Committee of Management.
“In 2018 the school marks its 11th anniversary and celebrates 21 years of providing kindergarten classes. The primary school began in 2007 with 13 children and in 2017 it had 81 students. A Montessori secondary program is run at Beechworth Secondary College.”
