Public hearings into regional development continue in Bendigo

Posted October 10, 2017

Bendigo is a great case study in successful regional development. The region’s solid manufacturing base, good health and education services and excellent public transport are the result of sustained government and industry investment.

Infrastructure bonds were put forward today as an incentive to promote private regional investment. Procurement policies that are weighted to regional suppliers were also suggested.

Regions are too often pitted in competition against each other by government policy. Good strategic regional development will require collaboration, between the regions, and state and federal government.

My question: What other ways could government make it easier for manufacturing and other industries to invest in regional Australia?
