We need a national plan for regional Australia
We need vision and commitment to address the differences in laws across borders, and the gap between urban and regional telecommunications, health, education and transport services .
- Acted to protect mobile child care services to rural and regional families. Invited Minister for Training and Education Simon Birmingham to visit Indi families in 2016. Advocated for rural and regional families' needs to be taken into account in legislation. Argued for a better plan for rural childcare in the Border Mail. Tabled a question in Parliament asking for clarification about the impact of proposed reforms on regional families. See Cathy's response here to the answer received in February 2017.
Consulted with more than 700 hundred people across the electorate in response to the 2014-2105 federal budget, and represented the voices of these people to the Government in the Indi Budget Impact Tour Report 2014
Asked the Government why for every year since 1996-1997, except for 2014, there has been a statement on the impacts of the budget on rural, regional and remote Australia
Called on the Government to consider the needs of regional Australia, and to provide a Rural and Regional Budget Impact Statement in 2015 and every year onwards
- Asked the Prime Minister about the Government's vision for regional Australia, and what the Government's legacy will be
- In response to the Bill to abolish the Albury Wodonga Development Corporation, spoke about the bold vision behind the Corporation and called on the Government to produce a plan for the important infrastructure—rail, education, health, telecommunications, roads—needed to enhance regional living
Supported High Speed Rail in Parliament, and the need for all levels of Government and all sides of politics to have the vision and commitment to make High Speed Rail happen for Australia
Advocated for Hume RDA and supported five key reports - freight, transport infrastructure, food, the digital economy and the future for young people in the area
- Supported community building efforts such as the community gardens in Toolangi / Castella, established to help them recover from the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires
