Rural health strategy focused on training doctors but not meeting need
Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan says the Government’s $83.3 million rural health workforce strategy needs to be matched with enough money to deliver services to meet gaps in rural and regional Australia.
The 2018-19 Budget strategy will provide incentives to teach, train and recruit doctors to rural and regional areas.
“The strategy doesn’t include allied health service delivery in small country towns. It is not targeted where it is needed,” Ms McGowan said.
