Scoping study release, community consultation the next steps for North East rail
Federal Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan says the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments must urgently define and determine how they can meet all funding requirements for the North East rail track upgrade.
Ms McGowan said the first step must be the public release of the scope of works for the $100 million federal investment in the line.
"The scoping study needs to be released now and community consultation must follow immediately," she said.
"Everyone needs to see the scoping study so they all understand and can discuss the problems, the potential solutions, the timeframe for works and the budget needed.
"The ongoing problems are causing too much stress throughout the communities of North East Victoria. The Commonwealth and State Governments must work together to prevent further disruptions."
Ms McGowan said V/Line management should also make public an interim plan for the delivery of services on the North East rail line while upgrade works are underway. That plan must outline the full cost of bus and cab replacement services and refunds.
