Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan AO, welcomed the State Government to Indi today and praised the Government’s initiative to connect with regional Victorian communities.
“It’s pleasing to see the Victorian Cabinet in Wangaratta and Wodonga and investing heavily in education and regional development,” Ms McGowan said.
Ms McGowan met with Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Training and Skills, Steve Herbert, at Wodonga TAFE space today. Discussion centred on education and transport needs in Indi.
Ms McGowan took the opportunity to inform Mr Herbert about the importance of a safe and reliable train service, and support for community approaches to solve public transport problems.
“I encouraged the Minister to put his full support behind the Regional Network Development Plan when it is released by his Government,” Ms McGowan said.
“Students in particular rely on public transport. Although some improvement has been made on the Wodonga-Melbourne service, more needs to be done to lift the service to a standard that commuters in other parts of the state take for granted.”
Announcing the Government’s Regional Statement at Milawa, visiting the Wangaratta hospital, touring the Wangaratta saleyards and opening the Jobs and skills Centre at Wodonga TAFE was an indication the State Government understands the significant contribution North East Victoria makes to the State.
"The potential in Indi is enormous. I’m optimistic the State Government knows how great a benefit the North East can be to the state’s economy. I look forward to seeing their continued support and commitments, including funding for major projects,” Ms McGowan said
