Tallangatta South celebrates improved mobile reception at tower launch
The Tallangatta South community will celebrate improved reception when their new mobile phone tower is officially launched on Saturday, 24 March 2018.
The community will be joined by Federal Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan and Telstra’s Area General Manager East & South West Victoria, Loretta Willaton.
Ms McGowan congratulated Tallangatta South, together with the Towong Shire Council for their work in identifying the blackspot as a priority. Towong has six spots funded – Bethanga, Dartmouth, Granya, Cudgewa, Omeo Highway, Tallangatta Valley and Tallangatta South.
“This is an achievement by the community in partnership with their council. It’s a testament to the effectiveness of communities and all levels of government working together,” Ms McGowan said.
“Indi has been successful in securing funding for 38 new mobile phone towers under the Commonwealth Government’s Mobile Black Spot Programme. This will be the 15th community event held to celebrate the new towers. I will continue to work on a sustainable solution to addressing all remaining blackspots across Indi, including pressing the Commonwealth Government to fund Round 4 of this programme.
“I will also continue to work closely with Telstra and Optus for NBN colocation on as many of these towers as possible.
“Thank you to Telstra and the State and Federal Governments on delivering a really important boost to local telecommunications.”
“People expect and deserve mobile phone coverage and connection to the internet wherever they are in Australia,” she said.
