Tangambalanga, Bethanga celebrate improved mobile reception at tower launches
The Tangambalanga and Bethanga communities will celebrate improved reception when their new mobile phone towers are officially launched on Friday, 16 March 2018.
Both communities will be joined by Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan and Telstra’s Area General Manager East & South West Victoria, Loretta Willaton.
Ms McGowan congratulated Tangambalanga and Bethanga, together with the Indigo and Towong councils for their work in identifying the blackspots as priorities. Indigo has two spots funded at Tangambalanga and at Leneva on the Beechworth-Wodonga Rd. Towong has six spots funded – Bethanga, Dartmouth, Granya, Cudgewa, Omeo Highway, Tallangatta Valley and Tallangatta South.
“This is an achievement by both communities in partnership with their councils. It’s a testament to the effectiveness of communities and all levels of government working together,” Ms McGowan said.
“Indi has been successful in securing funding for 38 new mobile phone towers under the Commonwealth Government’s Mobile Black Spot Programme. These will be the 13th and 14th community events held to celebrate the new towers. I will continue to work on a sustainable solution to addressing all remaining blackspots across Indi.
“The Bethanga tower will be one of five in Indi that will provide the colocation of NBN services. I will continue to work closely with Telstra and Optus for NBN colocation on as many towers as possible.
“Thank you to Telstra and the State and Federal Governments on delivering a really important boost to local telecommunications.”
“People expect and deserve mobile phone coverage and internet wherever they are in Australia,” she said.
