Telstra identifies reason for Wooragee mobile phone reception decline
4 January 2018
The Federal Independent Member for Indi Cathy McGowan has commended Telstra for its quick action in addressing complaints about the deterioration of mobile phone reception at Wooragee near Beechworth.
“Residents in the area had outlined their concerns about mobile phone reception to my office in the past few days,” Ms McGowan said.
“Telstra was contacted and they have identified the illegal use of mobile repeater devices near the Beechworth mobile base station. These devices have impacted on mobile coverage in surrounding areas including Wooragee.
“Telstra is now working with local authorities to identify the source and location of this interference.
“Telstra and Area General Manager Loretta Willaton have responded promptly to the inquiries from my office in identifying the cause of this problem.
“It’s important this issue is rectified in the near future. I encourage residents to note the information Telstra has made available about the illegal use of mobile repeater devices and their impact on mobile phone coverage.”
Ms McGowan said Indi residents who identified similar issues with their mobile phone reception should contact Telstra on 13 2200.
