Thales’ new pistol ammunition manufacturing line brings new jobs to Benalla
Federal Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan, has congratulated Thales Australia for creating new jobs with the launch of the new pistol ammunition manufacturing line at its Benalla facility.
Ms McGowan has today joined with Thales senior executives, Kevin Wall and Gary Dawson, as well as Dion Habner, managing director, Australian Munitions, for the launch. The new pistol ammunition manufacturing line will produce around 10 million cartridges annually and employ up to five new staff per shift.
"Thales has invested more than $1 million to establish the new capability. This is a new market segment for the company and will enable Thales to bid for business beyond traditional Defence customers, including law enforcement agencies in Australia and New Zealand," Ms McGowan said.
"Today’s launch follows confirmation last month from the Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, that Defence will enter into negotiations with Thales for the continued management and operation of the munition factories in Benalla and Mulwala.
"The Government recognises the importance of these Defence-owned munitions factories and that recognition is supporting new investment and the creation of new jobs."
