Change of Prime Minister

Social Security Commission Bill 2018
A Bill to establish a Social Security Commission was introduced by Cathy on Monday. Its purpose is to independently assess and evaluate the rates of welfare payments and benefits. The Bill comes after respondents to the 2018 Indi Budget Survey placed social welfare among the top five concerns for the electorate. Watch Cathy’s speech and question about the Bill.

Indi schools visit Parliament
Six Indi schools, Galen Catholic College, Beechworth Secondary College, Edi Upper Primary School, Borinya Wangaratta Community Partnership, Benalla P-12 College and Wodonga Senior Secondary College visited Cathy at Parliament House during the past fortnight. The students spoke to Cathy about their leadership roles and gained better understanding of Cathy’s role as an independent MP. Jodee volunteers in Canberra office
Mongans Bridge resident Jodee Betheras enjoyed getting to know the inner workings of Parliament House this week as she volunteered in Cathy’s Canberra office. Constitutional recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
Have you made a submission to the interim report released by the Joint Select Committee on Constitutional Recognition relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples (JSCCR)? Feedback can be made until 17 September 2018. A hearing will be held in Wodonga on 24 September 2018. Cathy is a member of the committee and spoke to the interim report in parliament this week. Cash available for sporting groups
Applications to The Community Sport Infrastructure Grant Program can be made until 14 September 2018. Grants can be used by sporting organisations, local government entities, educational institutions and not-for-profit organisations to fund small to medium capital projects, particularly improvements to existing sport infrastructure.
