Indi has its say on the Federal Budget
The Indi Budget Impact Survey Report is out now and details the 998 responses to the 2018/19 Federal Budget through a survey process asking “what does it mean to you?”. Taxation measures and the divide between regional and metropolitan Australia were among the top issues, with respondents concerned about inequality. The ‘Indi Way’ behind $4.4 million for Wangaratta Aquatic Strategy
Cathy has congratulated the Wangaratta Swimming Club for its efforts in helping to secure $4.4 million in funding for a new state-of-the-art aquatic facility at Wangaratta. The local club fundraised an impressive $100,000 towards the project. Club members also ran a petition and wrote letters to Ms McGowan’s office, local councillors and State and Federal Government bodies in support of their application.
Community to Canberra report out now!
Do you have a copy of Cathy’s latest case study, Connecting Community to Canberra – The Indi Way? The document recognises the actions of thousands of people from Indi and details the ways to increase participation in the parliamentary process. Copies are available from Cathy’s Wangaratta and Wodonga offices.
Victorian Treaty Advancement Commissioner Jill Gallagher AO will be in Wodonga and Wangaratta next week to speak about the Victorian Treaty process and her role. The events will be held at:

ARTC to host community conversations
Australian Rail Track Corporation visited Euroa, Glenrowan and Wangaratta this week to speak with residents about the ARTC Inland Rail Project. A final community meeting will be held at the Wangaratta Farmers’ Market on 14 July from 8am to 12 noon for a community conversation.

Take action for better regional education
Education providers in Indi have two more weeks to apply for a share in $16.7 million over four years allocated through the Regional Study Hubs Program. The federal funding will help establish and maintain up to eight community-owned study hubs across regional Australia. The hubs will support students to stay in their local area to study. Applications close at 5pm on 27 July.
Celebrating more mobile phone towers
Community celebrations for three new mobile phone towers will be held this month. The new towers are among the 38 towers to be activated in Indi under the Mobile Black Spots Programme.

Regional Development and Decentralisation Report
12 principles and 14 recommendations to guide regional development and help communities reach their potential have been outlined in the final report from the Select Committee on Regional Development and Decentralisation. Video empowers girls and women
That Girl Wodonga - a song and dance project empowering girls and working towards keeping all women and girls safe from violence – is gaining widespread acknowledgment around Indi. The video was funded by the Federal Government and Wodonga Council.

Scam alert for fake NBN calls
Residents around Indi have been targeted by scam calls claiming to be about NBN. NBN Co has advised Cathy’s office that the organisation never makes unsolicited calls or door knock to sell broadband services.
Kerferd Oration to be “Bold and Brave”
Northern Territory Senator Malarndirri McCarthy will deliver the Kerferd Oration this year. With a focus on bringing communities together and ensuring remote communities are engaged with and listened to, Senator McCarthy wants to encourage all Australians to be bold and brave to develop a united vision for Australia. The oration will be held at the George Kerferd Hotel, Mayday Hills, Beechworth on Sunday, 29 July. Doors open at 10.15am
