EFFECTIVE INDI

Grants provide lasting legacies

Seven RSL sub-branches and one historical society in Indi have been awarded $45,666 in Armistice Centenary Grants. Cathy will join Kiewa tonight at the opening of an exhibition focused on the local link to Charleroi, Belgium before attending commemorations at Benalla and Bright on Sunday. Click on the names for more details.

Family link to the past

The Armistice Centenary Commemorations also gave Cathy the chance to share her own family’s link to an important occasion. Her grandfather Gladstone Robert McGowan served in France and Belgium as an engineer in World War I and a precious family heirloom are his diaries and maps from the period, which refer to the first Armistice Day and being based in Amiens, France and travelling to Charleroi.

Tim Fischer book launch

Take some time to read a former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer’s new book Steam Australia. The book is the sixth from Tim and was created in collaboration with the National Library of Australia. In moving the vote of thanks, Cathy acknowledged the $235 million from the Commonwealth that will be invested in the North East Rail Line. Order a copy of Tim’s book here.
