About 15,000 premises in the Wodonga area will have access to fixed line NBN. NBN Co. made the announcement today in its quarterly update. Another 147,000 homes have been added to the plan for Victoria. Mt Beauty and Tawonga surrounds have also been included in the latest update.

Independent Member for Indi, Cathy McGowan AO, welcomed the news that the North East had again been included in the latest fixed line footprint. Construction is due to start by September 2016 and connection is expected to be switched on within 12 months of construction starting.

“This is great news for householders and business owners in these areas. They will have faster internet speeds and more reliable connection some time in 2017,” Ms McGowan said.

“Small business owners will also welcome this news today and be able to promote and grow their enterprises further when they connect to the NBN.

“Residents in Wodonga have been constantly asking my office when the NBN is coming to their area and today they have their answer. This is delivering on my election commitment to work with the Government to fix the telecommunications problems in Indi. I will continue to represent the people’s needs to Government as this infrastructure program continues.”
